SUMMIT, NJ - Sum It Up Lacrosse will be launching its first camp dates for boys alongside its established girls
program this summer.

After launching in 2007, Sum It Up was frequently asked why their camp was exclusively for girls and a boys' camp was not offered. After some consideration and interest from her son, founder Laura Gump decided to give the boys camp a try.

She allowed her son, Justin Gump, a senior at Pingry, to give it a shot. He held a clinic earlier this year as a trial run, using some of her drills and games as training for the kids.

“I was sitting on the med-kit for most of his clinics concerned about safety,” she said. “But after a while I was like, “You know what? He has this.”

After her son’s successful trial run, Gump decided to develop the boy’s camp. Gump hosted about 20 kindergarten through third grade students at her house, fully loaded with donuts, to pick a logo for the
boys' program.

She then reached out to upperclassmen high school lacrosse players and college players to find coaches.
Gump also hired on site director Kevin Meany, head middle school coach of Morristown Beard School’s
lacrosse team.

“Kids connect so well, and they’re so comfortable with younger coaches,” she said. Gump also noted it’s
important to have an adult on site for safety reasons.

The camp also always has an athletic trainer on site to assist both participants and coaches. It helps alleviate parental concerns, according to Gump. She is currently accepting calls from high school and college students interested in coaching as well.

The camp’s registration opened March 5th and will continue until all 50 places are taken for the boys' camp. The camp for boys will run the weeks of June 15 and July 17, and the girls will run the weeks of June 10, 17, 24, July 15, 22, Aug. 5 and 12.
