WESTFIELD, NJ - The Westfield Board of Education has appointed Dana Sullivan as the district's new business administrator/board secretary. The appointment was made during the June 26 Board of Education meeting.
Sullivan's appointment goes into effect on Sept. 1. She is replacing Interim Business Administrator Vincent Yaniro, who is retiring from his position in August.
Sullivan has been business administrator for 15 years in the Montclair Public Schools, which has an enrollment of more than 6,000 students, as does Westfield. Her responsibilities in Westfield will be similar to her previous position. For example, she will assist Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan with the preparation of the annual school budget and assume responsibility for the administration of all phases of the budget. She will serve as official purchasing agent for the board and ensure the proper maintenance of records related to auditing requirements and tax laws.
She will assist Dolan in the development and implementation of a multi-year comprehensive maintenance plan and the district’s long-range facilities master plan. All custodial, maintenance, food service, transportation personnel, and business operations staff will be under her supervision. Sullivan will oversee the preparation of the district’s payroll and administer the district’s insurance/risk management program.
In the accounting profession since 1986, Sullivan is a Certified Public Accountant, a licensed Public School Accountant, and a registered School Business Administrator. She holds certifications as a NJ School Business Administrator, Chief School Administrator, and Principal Supervisor.
Educational credentials also include a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from Montclair State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Rutgers University.
“Ms. Sullivan has a proven record as a Business Administrator in a good-sized school district, is experienced in all aspects of the position, and comes to us with strong recommendations," Dolan said. "We are thrilled to have her join us in Westfield.”
The interview team for the position included Dolan; Human Resources Specialist Barbara Ball; Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Paul Piniero; Tamaques Principal Michael Cullen; Maintenance Supervisor Michael Morris, and Board of Education members Richard Mattessich, Mitch Slater, and Mark Friedman.
