Students Enjoy Thanksgiving Feast

Monday, December 2, 2013 • 4:23pm

Just before the holiday, ECLC students celebrated their annual Thanksgiving feast together at lunchtime. The SKIL students and staff work diligently to prepare this traditional, delicious meal for everyone. SKIL means Seeking Knowledge for Independent Living, and in the program, students learn how to manage mailings, collate newsletters, create custom invitations, T-shirts, mugs and menus, and they even run the school lunch program. Thanks to SKIL, we (well, not me) enjoyed a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, whole wheat bread and gravy. Families from each classroom sent in desserts and drinks to share.

I am thankful that I am a facility dog at ECLC.

My name is Gino. I am a specially trained assistance dog from Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). CCI is a national, non-profit organization that provides highly trained assistance dogs, like me, to increase independence and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities. Now, I am a Facility Dog at ECLC of New Jersey’s school in Chatham, N.J., for children with special needs.
