Storm Drain Stolen from South Orange Parking Lot

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ [A weekly roundup of SOPD activity] -- A 4-foot section of a metal storm drain was stolen from the entrance to a Third Street parking lot on Jan. 18.
Police say this is the third metal theft in the village. They are asking people to report suspicious activity if they see someone tampering with or removing items from a road or a parking lot. Suspects may be driving SUV-type vehicle.
On Jan. 15, the mangers of Modern Auto Body reported that someone driving a black four-door SUV pulled into the parking lot and stole two iron drainage covers at 11:35 a.m.
In other police news:
Two people were victims of thieves targeting technology. On Jan. 23, a Seton Hall student reported that someone stole her iPhone after she left it plugged in in the hallway of a classroom building around 6:30 p.m. A Plainfield resident reported that he left his laptop in a South Orange Public Library bathroom. When he came back an hour later it had been stolen. The theft occurred around noon on Jan. 10.
- A Finlay Place resident told police he saw a male riding a bicycle entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in his driveway, and steal some change. The incident occurred at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20.
