Still Perfect Seventh Grade Summit Football Team Lauded at Gathering

SUMMIT, NJ - The juggernaut Seventh Grade Summit Football team, never beaten since being formed, and winners of back-to-back New Jersey Suburban Youth Football League Championships, were honored for their accomplishments in a gathering at the Summit Community Center.

The team, undefeated in their existence, were treated to remarks from Summit Varsity Football Head Coach Kevin Kostibos, who hailed their achievements and told the assembled players, coaches and parents that they are all part of Summit's football tradition.  Kostibos also gave each player a Summit High School Championship T-shirt featuring the saying "Defend What's Ours".
 
Seventh Grade Team Head Coach Matt Johnson and his staff reviewed the impressive numbers and stats the team has compiled the past two seasons alone, including:
 
21 consecutive wins (10-0 in 2012, 11-0 in 2013)
 
Outscored the opposition 564-135
 
Outscored opponents 147-19 in the playoffs
 
Recorded eight shutouts
 
No opponent has scored more than 14 points
 
Averaged 266 yards of offense per game
 
Scored an average of 30 points per game
 
17 different players have handled the ball on offense
 
13 different players have scored a touchdown and-or extra point
 
The team also handed out its Offensive, Defensive, and Lineman MVP awards.  Tyrone Hines, who carried the ball 56 times for 985 yards and 20 touchdowns, earned the Offensive MVP.  The Defensive MVP and Team Leadership Awards went to Jackson Tyler.  George Johnson, a force on both sides of the ball, was named the Lineman MVP.  Hines was also named the Championship Game -- dubbed the "Super Bowl" -- Most Valuable Player.  
 
All team members were presented with a custom jacket, commemorating their accomplishments as team.  The Seventh Grade Team's Title Trophy is on display at the Summit Community Center.
