State Police Involved in 1st Ward Shooting; Trooper and Suspect Injured

PATERSON, NJ - New Jersey State Police officers were involved in a shooting in the 1st Ward Thursday night, authorities said.

Police on Thursday night were releasing few details about the incident, which happend at the parking lot of a strip mall near the corner of Chamberlain Avenue and West Broadway after 8 pm.

"I can tell you that a trooper was not shot,'' said state police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite. When asked whether a trooper shot someone, Polite said, "That's still under investigation.''

A report on northjersey.com said one suspect and one trooper were unjured taken to the hospital for treatment. The trooper may have been hit by a vehicle in the incident, while the suspect apparently was wounded, officials said.

Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez of the Paterson Police Department said no city officers were involving in the shooting.
