NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Hot coffee, a live acoustic guitar player and friendly servers brought the warmth of a quaint cafe feel to the New Providence Village Shopping Center on Friday night as Starbucks held its grand opening, on a day where the temperatures barely got out of the teens.
“I love the atmosphere,” said Kevin Tsai, a customer and Berkeley Heights resident as he drank his coffee, “and the musician contributes to the very welcoming atmosphere.”
Within 15 minutes of the grand opening the store was already full of customers and an ample staff to accommodate them. Workers walked around with trays of free sample brownies, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies.
“I think it’s fantastic, the store has a very warm, neighborhood vibe,” said Amy Robb, a customer and resident of nearby Summit. “It’s brought a lot of vibrancy to this end of the plaza.”
Although this new store evokes the feel of a small town coffee shop, Starbucks has locations throughout the world. Since its inception in 1971 in Seattle, WA the chain has opened more than 16,000 stores in 62 countries according to it’s official website. In 2012 alone, the most recent year they published annual financial reports, Starbucks stores worldwide reached $13.1 billion in net revenues.
For its part, Starbucks is happy to have a location in New Providence.
“We love being part of people's daily routines and are pleased to be a part of the New Providence community,” said a Starbucks spokeswoman at the event.
