MONTCLAIR, NJ - A fight inside a Mission Street residence results in one stabbing victim and one arrest.

Montclair Police were dispatched to 24 Mission Street on Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. on report of a stabbing.

According to Capt. James Carlucci, an individual approached a Montclair police officer who was walking the area and told him something occurred inside of the residence.

Officers found a 21-year-old Newark man bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Several police units and an ambulance responded to the call. The victim was found responsive with wounds to his forearm, back and buttocks.

Kerr and the victim are friends who had gotten into an argument.  O'Dowd stated, "The victim was stabbed four times with a pocket knife, once in the left forearm, once in the back and twice in the buttocks."

Mission Street was blocked off for some time after the incident occurred while police investigated and the victim, who sustained non-lifethreatening injuries, was taken to the hospital.   The victim was taken to University Hospital in Newark where he was released a few hours later.

Harrison Kerr, 19, of Montclair was arrested as a suspect in the case.  Kerr, "...was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes," said Lt. O'Dowd, Detective Bureau Commander of the Montclair Police Department.

A relative of the suspect who had been in the house at the time of the incident was visbly shaken.

A neighbor who lives in another apartment in the house, but was not at home at the time of the incident and wishes to remain unidentified, weighed in on the stabbing with other neighbors Thursday morning.  The neighbor felt the matter was isolated and unrelated to the other incidents that have occurred on Mission Street in the past few days.

Residents who had been in the area during the incident did not wish to comment on record.

An officer was posted outside of the residence Thursday.  The cause of the argument is currently under investigation.
