EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - -The SB Buffalos Football & Cheer Program had a great Week 4 of their season in the American Youth Football Shore League.
Weekend games kicked off with the two Flag Football Teams--Flag Gold and Flag Green--playing three games each in a round-robin format. The Flag program consists of kids ages 5 and 6 who learn football skills in a non-contact environment so they can focus on learning proper football terms, field positioning and football skills without pads. This level is instructional and non-competitive so all games are played without scores being kept. Flag level also has Cheer and the girls were at all the games cheering their little hearts out.
Sunday games began with the 7-Year Old Junior Mitey Mite Team taking on Red Bank. Junior Mitey Mite level is also instructional as the focus is on introducing pads and hitting to the kids coming out of the Flag Program so the focus is on proper tackling, blocking and running techniques and not focusing on winning. Following the Junior Mitey Mites was the 8 & 9 Year Old Mitey Mite Team playing Metuchen. The Mite level adds more skills to the game and less coaches are on the field to assist the kids during the game. This is the final instructional, non-competitive level team.
Jr. Pee Wees, a team of 9-11 year olds took on River Plaza in a game featuring the two divisional leaders and the Buffalos absorbed the loss to lower their record to 3-1. The Pee Wee team of 10-12 year olds followed next and raised their record to 3-1 by defeating Howell in a great game that featured a lot of scoring with the victory not being sealed until the middle of the 4th quarter. The Pee Wees are defending division champions and are continuing where they left off last year. The Jr Midgets, 12-14 year olds, raised their record to 3-1 with a high-scoring defeat of Metuchen to put them on the top of the division standings.
Cheer is not an afterthought with the program--the Jr Midget Cheer team is 2x Defending National Champions and the Pee Wee and Jr Pee Wee teams are defending League and Region Champions. Competition for the Cheer teams begins in two weeks as they begin their quest to defend their titles. The Flag Cheer Team just competed in their first Cheer Expo and were awarded the Best Dance Team--following in the footsteps of their older Cheer sisters.
Next week the Buffalos will venture to Keyport in a divisional series. For additional information about the Buffalos, visit the website www.stbartsbuffalos.com or Facebook.com/stbartsbuffalos.
