NEWTON, NJ- The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County will present a Spring Concert on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. at the Sussex County Community College Performing Arts Center.  The Children’s Chorus of Sussex County is comprised of three separate choirs, divided according to age and ability.  Younger children in the Bel Canto choir will perform four songs that include American and Canadian folk songs, an African American Spiritual, and an art song,a song that uses a pre-existing poem as its lyrics.  Katie Blevins and Madison Zahorsky from the CCSC Concert Choir will accompany some of the Bel Canto songs on violin and spoons.

The Bella Voce Choir, which is comprised of intermediate singers in grades five through eight will perform a variety of songs including two songs composed from the same poem by Christina Rossetti; “Prettier Far than These,” and “The Rainbow.”  They will also perform a rhythmically difficult Spanish song, “Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia.”

Advanced singers in grades seven through 12 who make up the Concert Choir will perform several folk songs from the United States, Canada and Japan.  The performance will be in several languages, genres and styles, including spirituals, gospel style, and Baroque.

The concert will conclude with a performance of two movements from the Stephen Paulus Holocaust Oratorio “To Be Certain of the Dawn,” which members of the Bella Voce and Concert Choirs performed at the recent New York premiere at Carnegie Hall.  This oratorio commemorates the loss of 1.5 million children during the time of the Holocaust.  Their highly acclaimed performance has culminated in an invitation to perform the work again in Greece at an International Music Festival in July 2015.

Tickets for the Children’s Chorus of Sussex County spring concert are available at www.ccscsings.org.  The Sussex County Performing Arts Center is located at One College Hill Road in Newton.
