SPFHS Varsity Soccer Teams Honored at Board of Ed Meeting

SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD The Scotch Plains Fanwood High School Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls Soccer teams were honored at last night’s Board of Education Open Agenda Meeting.
Board of Education President Trip Whitehouse spoke first: “Our student athletes always do us proud not only on the field but also in the way you carry yourselves through the halls…”
Superintendent Margaret Hayes was very pleased to honor the Varsity teams “for giving our combined communities of Fanwood and Scotch Plains a very exciting soccer season.” Dr. Hayes thanked the coaches for the many hours they spent on the soccer field and for having a positive affect on the personal development of the young athletes.
Assistant Principal for Athletics Ryan Miller proudly mentioned that the Varsity teams are in “the top 1% of an incredibly strong soccer organization in your community. You represent it well.” Mr. Miller introduced the girls coach Kevin Ewing.
A reading of a resolution for the girls’ team mentioned the impressive 2012 record of 18 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties. “…this varsity girls soccer team continued the tradition of being one of the top teams in Union County and the State of New Jersey.”
The resolution for the 2012 Scotch Plains Fanwood High School Varsity Boys Soccer team mentioned that they achieved an impressive soccer record of 19 wins, 1 loss and 3 ties. The team won the 2012 Union County Championship title, against Governor Livingston High School at Kean University, before a crowd of more than 500 fans. “Over the last 15 years the varsity boys’ soccer team have won the Union County title 9 times and have played in the finals 13 times.”
Coach Tom Breznitsky has been Head Coach of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team for 38 seasons. The coach mentioned “I truly believe that… this was the best team we ever had in Scotch Plains.”
