SUMMIT, NJ - Youth with special needs or those needing a little encouragement to participate in recreation are welcome to join programs being offered by the Summit Community Programs Department and several neighboring towns, coordinated by TryCAN.  These popular and affordable classes, open to both residents and nonresidents, allow youth to pursue an activity further or simply provide a meaningful recreation experience.  Programs are led by experienced instructors, and use trained teen Peer Mentors to help participants learn and have fun.  We have a full schedule of programs:

  • Reading Club (ages 5-9) – Tuesdays starting January 21.
  • Music with Jammin Jenn (ages 4-8) – Thursdays starting January 23.
  • Let’s Pretend play and social group for 3-5 year olds – Saturdays starting January 18.
  • Play and Learn play and social group for 6-7 year olds – Saturdays starting January 18.
  • Social Skills, using technology, for 8-12 year olds – Mondays starting January 13.
  • Teen Friendship Group – Mondays starting January 13.
  • Baseball Skills – Sundays starting January 26.
Classes are held at the Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Avenue.  For a copy of the flyer with detailed program and prices, contact summitcan@gmail.com, or call Summit Community Programs at 908-277-2932.  Try CAN is a collaboration of communities offering recreation programs for youth with special needs or needing certain accommodations.
