Sparta Middle School student Eileen Huhn performed at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on Saturday, January 26 during the Winner’s Recital of the Crescendo International Music Competition. This was Eileen’s first International piano competition, and she received Second Place in a field that featured participants from Argentina, Canada, China, Germany, Korea, Mongolia, Russia and Singapore.
For her Carnegie Hall performance, Eileen selected a piece by Russian composer Dmitri Kabalevsky entitled Seven Variations on a Ukrainian Folksong, Op. 51, No.4.
This was Eileen’s second performance at Carnegie Hall. In April 2012, she performed in the Winner’s Recital following her First Place finish in the Crescendo Little Mozarts Competition.
Eileen is a student of Lyubov Baykova, a piano instructor at the Biryukov Academy of Arts and Music in Sparta. Biryukov Academy Executive Director Elena Zelenina commented that “Eileen is an outstanding student with a deep passion for music. We are so pleased when our students perform to their highest potential during competitions.” Ms. Huhn is a vocal student at the Biryukov Academy as well.
Eileen is also an accomplished cellist who serves as Associate to the Principal in the Sussex County Youth Orchestra (“SCYO”). Eileen will be traveling to Europe this summer with the SCYO and will be performing at venues across Austria, Italy and Switzerland.
In addition to her musical success, Eileen is an Honors student at Sparta Middle School. In her free time she enjoys skiing, swimming and spending time with her family and friends.
