A Sparta man was issued a variety of summonses yesterday after he was observed operating a dirt bike unlawfully on the beach and dam located at Seneca Lake. At 4:17 pm Sparta Police were dispatched to the lake community that borders Byram Township to investigate an ongoing problem concerning a lone rider on a dirt bike.
Sgt. Joseph Pensado and Officer Kurt Morris stopped 18-year-old Justin Giulini who was riding a dirt bike without a helmet on Seneca Lake Property. Giulini who at first told officers he was 17-years-of-age questioned the need for two officers to deal with him stating, “this is a waste of time.”
The officers investigation quickly revealed that Giulini was in fact 18-years-of-age, that his dirt bike was uninsured, unregistered and that he was chasing swans, ducks and geese with his dirt bike. It was further learned that he had been told before by the lake association to stay off the property.
Giulini was charged with; operating a Dirt Bike that is Uninsured, Unregistered, Operating Without a Helmet, Operating a Dirt Bike Without Headlights, Operating a Dirt Bike on Private Property Without Permission and Operating a Dirt Bike With the Intent to Harass Wildlife. Gilulini was issued these summonses and then directed to walk home. He has a required First Appearance in Sparta Municipal Court on April 1, 2013 at 6:00 pm.
