SPARTA, NJ - The National Junior Honor Society at the Sparta Middle School, their parents and teachers collected and wrapped both new and pre-owned holiday gifts to donate to the Father English Community Center, located in Paterson.

Quinn V., a National Junior High School member and leader of this project said, "I'm amazed at the generosity of the Sparta Middle School Community during the holiday season."

The group of 15 eighth-grade students advertised throughout the school and, between Nov. 25 and Dec. 11, collected more than 100 new and pre-owned toys and games for Father English. The students wrapped these gifts during their lunch break and after school.

Zoe C., Sparta Middle School President of National Junior Honor Society, commented, "The holidays are a great time of the year to think of the less fortunate. With the NJHS, friends come together to help others while having a great time doing it."

The mission of the Father English Community Center is to create hope and make a lasting difference in the lives of those who seek help.  Their programs offer social services to youths, adults and families in need, always with a preference for the poor and most vulnerable.

Robert Head, the Father English Community Center Site Director, absolutely loved these wrapped gifts from the Sparta MIddle School students, parents and teachers.  "We are going to give a present to any child that comes with a parent obtaining food from our pantry. This has not been done before so it will be a pleasant surprise for the little ones."

Theresa Gleason, Special Education Teacher at the Sparta Middle School said, "Volunteering and serving others is way to connect to a community.  The students involved in this toy drive are excited that they are able to give back, and help make the holiday season a little brighter for others."

Mitch Morrison, a local volunteer coordinator, quoted, "Over the past few years, our community has done an outstanding job of giving their gently pre-owned clothes, baby items, toys, entertainment items, books, etc. to those in need in New Jersey.  Please email mmorrison@nac.net if you would like to donate to those in need in NJ."
