Sparta High School Swimming Falls to United Newton Lenape Valley

SPARTA, NJ- Sparta Girls Swimming lost a tight battle to United Newton Lenape Valley on Tuesday night, 86-84, falling to 2-2 on the season. Sparta Boys also lost to UNLV, 107-63, dropping their record to 1-3.
Seniors Rachel Rippey and Elizabeth Smith each won two individual events. They also swam together to win two relays. Rippey took the sprint freestyles winning the 50 and 100 in 26.42 and 58.02, respectively. Smith took the distance Freestyles in 2:07.77 for 200 Free and 5:47.39 for the 500 Free. They were joined by Emily Johnson and Katya Jouravlev to win the 200 Medley Relay. Johnson and Lindsay Rippey teamed up with Rachel Rippey and Smith to win the 400 Freestyle Relay. Sparta also won the 200 Freestyle Relay with the team of Lindsay Rippey, Chelsea Riviera, Valerie Russo and Emily Bettano.
Sparta Boys picked up victories in 50 Freestyle by Cody Matheson (24.22) and 100 Butterfly by Tim Johnson (59.50). Sparta also took the 400 Freestyle Relay in 3:35.18 with Chris Rudel, Cullen Walsh, Matheson and Johnson.
Jefferson is next up for the Spartans on Thursday, January 16th, at 6:00 at Kittatinny Regional High School.
