EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ-On Sunday June 8, The College of New Jersey held its second annual Juried Show exhibit titled Art, Innovation and Ideas. At this show the exemplary artwork created by New Jersey’s kindergarten through 12th grade students is recognized. The pieces showcase creative lessons designed by the state’s art teachers. The statewide exhibition celebrates innovative art making that connects student learning and art to the real world, academic subjects, social issues, big ideas as well as contemporary art.
The College of New Jersey received hundreds of submissions from art teachers in elementary, middle and high school throughout New Jersey and only 124 pieces were selected. Sparta High School seniors Erin Cannon, Isabella Cuan, Christine Galley, and Melissa Hespelt were represented at this very selective show.
Cannon created carved ceramic plates. Galley showed a non-functional ceramic teapot being attacked by an octopus. Cuan represented Sparta with a black and white photograph of her grandparents and Hespelt created a realistic colored pencil self-portrait.
The exhibit reception was held on Sunday, June. The entire show will be on view from June 1 until the 22nd, Wednesdays and Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. or by appointment for group and school visits. Appointments are available by calling 609-771-2633.
