Sparta High School Baseball and Softball Sweep Opening Round of County Tournament

SPARTA, NJ-The Sparta High School softball team shutout  Belvidere 3-0 in the first game of the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament.  Pitcher Kim Puccio threw the entire game with 16 strikeouts, allowing only one hit and no walks. 

Shannon Monahan scored twice.  Courtney McKenna went three for three with an RBI.  Gretchen Bowie batted 2-3, crossing the plate once to add to the victory. 

Sparta softball now has a 9-6 record, facing Vernon on April 29 at home.  The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The Sparta High School baseball team defeated North Warren in the first round of the Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex tournament.  The home crowd saw their Spartans win 5-1 with Gordy Bonker on the mound.  Bonker threw all seven innings allowing only five hits.

Thomas Ruddy scored twice, batting .500 for the game.  Matt Chemis and Tim Gondek each scored to contribute to the win.  Sparta's record is now 10-4 playing in Vernon on April 29 at 4 p.m.
