SPARTA,NJ-Sparta Bears Football 8th grade coach George Stewart was recently honored as the New Jersey Suburban Youth Football League "Coach of the Year." According to Bears President Brian Dolan and Vice President Julie Schuldner, the honor goes to a coach who exemplifies the program’s focus on player development, leadership and personal growth.

“George has not only earned the respect of his players but from numerous coaches across the league”, said Dolan. “This well-deserved honor is very prestigious within this competitive league that spans across five counties. George was selected for his tireless commitment to his players, parents and the overall success of his 8th grade squad who won the Continental division title.”

Stewart was also chosen to coach the North 8th grade All-Stars.

Founded in 1972, the New Jersey Suburban Youth Football League (NJSYFL) has grown to be the largest program with the state. The league was formed in an effort to provide additional opportunities for boys to participate in contact football sport that may have been excluded from other programs due to weight and age restrictions.  Since its inception, the program has matured significantly and now affords more than five thousand boys and girls an opportunity to participate in youth football and cheerleading programs. The league is currently comprised of twenty town programs split between three conferences; American, National and Continental.

As the Bears enter into their fifth season they continue to flourish with over 250 plus participants in flag football for first and second grades; tackle football for third through eighth grades and cheer for first through eight grades.
