SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - The Scotch Plains Cultural Arts Committee presents the 2013 Village Green Summer Concert Series on Thursday August 8.  The opening act at 6:30 just for the kids will be "Hot Peas 'N Butter,” a New York based children's band, followed by Southbound, a Long Island-based band that plays country music.

According to the press, "Hot Peas ‘N Butter”, is a Nickelodeon/Noggin TV favorite whom the Los Angeles Times lauded for their “hot and mellow multicultural groove” and who are the winners of the 2006, 2008 AND the 2009,"Parent's Choice Awards."  They are a unique children's musical group that incorporates elements of traditional Latin music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, jazz, folk, and rock."

"By combining an interactive, invigorating approach to performance with mature, multicultural music, Hot Peas 'N Butter has developed a distinct way of inspiring care and creativity in kids and adults alike,"  as stated in the press.

Southbound has entertained people all over the tri-state area for over twenty years and have taken genres like country, blues, and rock songs to make their own music. To perform their songs, instruments like the fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, and drums are used to create unique sounds. In the past, the band was the opening act for major artists like The Charlie Daniels Band and Keith Urban and were voted the best cover band by Newsday for two consecutive years.

Arrive a little early with the family to picnic or grab a bite to eat downtown from some of the local food vendors and to check out some of the other nearby businesses and event sponsors who will be under tents enjoying the shows.
