SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield Tiger lefthander Brandon Rickert threw seven scoreless innings, and senior shortstop Mike Polizzano singled, doubled, tripled and reached base safely in all four at-bats to go on and defeat Metuchen 7-0 in an emotional victory in South Plainfield.  Prior to the game South Plainfield players, staff, coaches, faculty, friends and family attended a dedication ceremony for the late Bill Mosca.  Mosca a former teacher and baseball coach for over 30 years, passed away suddenly this past winter.  A flagpole and plaque was dedicated in memory of the beloved husband, father, friend, teacher and coach.  After the tribute the Tigers went right on to business as their former coach would want.

The Tigers would get out of a first inning jam on a 6-4-3 double play.  In the bottom half of the first inning the Tigers would strike quickly.  Junior Kyle Dickerson singled.  Tiger second baseman Bryan Gillen tripled to knock in Dickerson.  Senior Justin Marks’ fielders’-choice scored Gillen.  Marks reached base safely and scored on Nick Polizzano’s groundout to put the score at 3-0 after an inning of play.

The Tigers tacked on a run in the second inning when centerfielder Aidan McDermott singled home Dickerson.

Senior Mike Polizzano tripled to left to lead off the third inning.  Polizzano immediately scored on a Chris Graves double.  Gillen singled to knock in Graves, and the Tiger led by a score of 6-0 after just three innings.

In the fourth inning Mike Polizzano once again would get the Tiger offense churning.  Polizzano laced a double to left and scored on a LJ Scarpitto’s two-out RBI single.  This would be more than enough run support for Rickert.  The lefthander would keep Metuchen off balance at the plate, and the Tigers defense turned in a number of double plays to turn-back any potential Metuchen rally.

South Plainfield plays away this evening at the Staten Island Yankees, Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
