South Plainfield Boys Basketball 2013-2014 Preview

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – First-year coach Matthew Connell is hoping and practicing to have a turnaround for the South Plainfield boys basketball team. Connell hopes to improve on last year’s 8-16 regular season record. Connell said “we would like to be more competitive in the Blue Division of the GMC (Greater Middlesex Conference) this year, get a better seed in the GMC tournament, and qualify for the state tournament.”
Connell’s Tigers will be tested out of the gate opening their season Friday night at home against Spotswood. Spotswood finished 21-8 last year, and is entering the season with a number of new strong varsity players.
South Plainfield will enter 2013-2014 season with a lot of senior leadership mixed with athleticism. The Tigers will have seven seniors and two juniors on the varsity squad. Connell said, “In order to be successful, we will have to continue to grow as a team, work hard in practice, and get better each time we step on the court.”
