SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The South Orange Village Center alliance has named the former director of the Lower East Side Business Improvement District as its new executive director, effective Nov. 4.
SOVCA Board President Matt Glass announced the appointment of Bob Zuckerman at the South Orange Board of Trustees meeting on Monday night.
Glass said that Zuckerman ran a million-dollar BID in a New York neighborhood that has undergone a lot of changes. “He’s a really good guy,” Glass told the trustees.
He was raised in Livingston and attended Livingston High School and Emory University before earning a law degree at American University. Glass said Zuckerman is living in Jersey City but just bought property in South Orange.
“He wants to be able to work in a place that he cares about and can put all his energy in,” Glass said. Zuckerman attended the recent “flower bombing” event and plans to attend the Halloween Festival on Thursday.
He replaces Lisa Hackett as executive director of the SOVCA. Hackett left the position in mid-August. Nancy Gould, a former South Orange trustee, has been serving as interim director.
The SOVCA has an annual budget of $266,000. The organization works to promote business in downtown South Orange and oversees the village’s Special Improvement District. Businesses in the SID pay an annual assessment to help support the work of the SOVCA.
