SOUTH ORANGE, NJ -- The Board of Trustees for South Orange Village along with The Community Relations Committee of South Orange present a fun-filled Newcomers/All Comers Day Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2-4 p.m. at the South Orange Public Library.
It's a relaxed atmosphere where new residents can make old friends and see firsthand what kind of wonderful town they have chosen to live in. Residents also can pick up a handy practical resource guide for their new life in town.
Members of many of our nonprofit organizations will be there to share how much they give to enhance your new home town - and beyond!. It's a warm, fun day with kids activities, snacks and live music by well-known musician Matt Mattheiss.
At 3 p.m., Village President Alex Torpey will roll out new communication plans for South Orange and Villagers of the Month through the years will be on hand to share "hearty handshakes" as part of the welcome party. Residents can preserve memories of South Orange on camera, too, as part of the library's "South Orange Of Septembers Past."
Longtime residents are asked to join in the fun, too. Won't you join us for one friendly welcome? You won't want to miss it.
Afterward, newcomers are asked to join in more fun at Meadowland Park. It will be a community art day with local visual artists on hand to further extend the welcoming hand. TAU, designed by local art legend Tony Smith (South Orange's own native son) will become the site of added fun where a celebration will take place honoring what would have been Tony Smith's 100th birthday.
As if that is not enough fun, the Township of South Orange, Seton Hall’s Ultimate Frisbee team and the University Engagement Committee of the SO/SHU partnership are part of the days festivities, too. They will be holding Ultimate Frisbee Invitational Tournaments all day long starting at 9:30 on Sunday - also happening on Saturday. Sunday's match will take place at Montrose School grounds close to Meadowland Park.
