South Orange Promotes 2 Police Officers

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ— More than 100 people packed the meeting room at Monday’s Board of Trustees meeting to witness the promotion and swearing in of two police officers.
Police Sgt. Eric Moore was promoted to lieutenant, and Detective Adrian Acevedo was promoted to sergeant.
Chief James Chelel thanked everyone for coming out. “Promotion is a very exciting time in the police department,” he said.
Moore was born and grew up in South Orange. He graduated from Columbia High School, and he has been with the department for 22 years.
Acevedo’s most recent assignment was to the Detective Bureau. He has served in a number of other positions, including being assigned to the county prosecutor’s Cyber Task Force.
Village President Alex Torpey said, “I think I speak for everyone in this community when I say congratulations.” Torpey presided over the swearing in ceremony for the two officers.
