SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The South Orange Department of Health has ordered the Jersey Animal Coalition (JAC) to close temporarily due to its possession of three cats found to be infected with ringworm. The facility is under quarantine until further notice. No animals will be allowed to enter or leave the facility until the building is cleared by the South Orange Department of Health.
“We are hoping the cases of ringworm can be cured in about three weeks,” said JAC President Ruth Perlmutter. However, she noted that it can sometimes take longer.
South Orange Assistant Township Administrator Adam Loehner said that until the shelter is reopened, any stray animals that are captured in South Orange and Maplewood that would normally be delivered to the JAC shelter will have to be taken elsewhere.
The JAC shelter is located at 298 Walton Avenue, South Orange.
