SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The area can expect another round of heavy snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast tonight calls for snow mixed with rain, switching over to all snow for an additional 3 to 6 inches of accumulation. The next chance for snow is Friday night into Saturday.

On Thursday, village offices were closed and Seton Hall University canceled classes. The South Orange-Maplewood School District is on Winter Recess through Monday.

Commuters faced disruptions as well. The Jitney service was suspended, and NJ Transit restored bus service in Essex County at 4 p.m. after suspending it shortly before 11 a.m., but passengers were warned to expect delays and detours. Trains were delayed, and NJ Transit reported at 6:52 p.m. that Midtown Direct service into Penn Station had been restored and outbound service was extended.

NJ Transit plans to run on a regular schedule on Friday.
