Unless you’ve found a way to hide from social media, the internet, television, your friends or, OK, just have been living under a rock for the last few weeks, you’ve likely heard about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

By now, your Facebook news feed looks like the end of every championship football game. Someone tells you who challenged them, dumps a bucket of ice water on his or her head, and then shouts out to three others who must complete the challenge and/or donate to the ALS.org website to help spread both awareness and raise funds to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Methacton’s sports teams are next on the list. Methacton High School girls’ varsity soccer coach Bret Smith completed his donation and challenge Sunday, and shared the post to YouTube for all to see:

In return, he’s asked MHS Athletic Director and boys’ baseball coach Paul Spiewak, along with all varsity fall sports coaches to do the same. The challenge is on, and all coaches and the AD are already on the clock. Will they meet the challenge? Stay tuned to LP TAP to find out more.

In the meantime, over $5 million has been raised for the organization aimed at stopping the deadly disease. Compared to the 2013 earnings over the same period of only $30,000, the Ice Bucket Challenge, created by a sufferer of the disease and his son, has truly brought recognition to the illness.
