BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ – Andrew Silvagni may be relieved of his coaching duties in Berkeley Heights.

According to the Berkeley Heights Board of Education agenda for their Thursday night meeting, the district's superintendent has recommended a vote be taken to remove Silvagni from his girls' varsity coach position.

Assistant head coach Rob Ritter has been recommended as Silvagni’s interim replacement for the remainder of this year. Michelle daSilva has been recommended to be assigned as Ritter's assistant coach.

Silvagni last coached the Highlanders to a 53-43 road win at Linden on Jan. 23.

The seven-year head coach was reported missing the next day by his parents to the New Providence Police Department.  Silvagni missed two games before returning home on the morning of Jan. 29 and has not returned to the bench since.

The reason for Silvagni’s disappearance is unknown.

Outside of his head coaching responsibilities at Gov. Livingston High School, Silvagni is the defensive coordinator for the New Providence varsity football team, as well as the JV baseball coach at his alma mater.

New Providence High School Athletic Director Rob Harmer would not comment on Silvagni’s status with the Pioneers because he is not a current in-season coach.

According to Harmer, Silvagni is not a full-time employee of either school district therefore his positions get reposted each year.

“Because coaching is not a tenured position in any district, those positions get posted every year,” Harmer said. “We evaluate each coach every year. If they’re a teacher in the building and they’re doing a fine job, we rehire. If they are adjunct, those positions get reported every year.”
