Council President Ray Rusnak and Board of Education member Debbie Boyle, who chairs the Shared Services Committee, have announced that the borough and school board will be purchasing signs geared toward increasing traffic safety near the borough's schools. If successful, the two plan to expand the idea to neighborhoods throughout the town.
The signs will read " DRIVE LIKE YOUR KIDS LIVE HERE." Rusnak and Boyle are hoping the signs will make people aware children are present and make them slow down. The signs were ordered a week ago, and residents should start to see them popping up throughout the borough. Rusnak and Boyle both stated, "This is another way the BOE and the Borough Council are working together to make a safer community for all."
Former Board of Education member Bob Jones suggested the signs after seeing them in Connecticut, where he snapped a picture of one. "I'm glad the town and the school board liked the idea," Jones said. "They are a simple way to increase safety near our schools and in neighborhoods where kids play."
