EAST ORANGE, NJ – For the past seven years, Sierra House, a transitional home for homeless young women and their babies in East Orange, has hosted a Spring Gardening Event, featuring volunteers from the community, local churches, schools, and senior centers working on its grounds and gardens. The event teaches Sierra House residents that a crucial part of living independently is taking responsibility for all aspects of their homes.

This year, Sierra House is proud to announce that in addition to working on the grounds and gardens of Sierra House, it is expanding the scope of the Spring Gardening Event to clean-up other sections of the City of East Orange. “Our goal is to let our neighbors know that Sierra House truly cares about the community as a whole and is willing to do its part in maintaining its beauty,” says Keely Freeman, Executive Director of Sierra House.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2014, and will kick off at 10 am with a light breakfast and end at 2 pm with a barbecue lunch. If you love gardening, here's a chance to get your hands dirty while having a bunch of fun! Volunteers will assist with mulching, weeding, planting flowers, and street clean-up. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Shahilda at (973) 678-3556.
