AUGUSTA, NJ - The 2012 Queen of the Fair Pageant took place on Saturday, August 4. The event location was the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, New Jersey. Sharon Kleindienst of Stillwater, NJ was crowned Queen.

It was an evening of elegance featuring twenty young ladies representing Sussex County municipalities.

Kleindienst is a 2012 graduate of Kittatinny Regional High School and will be attending Mansfield University of Pennsylvania in the fall. Kleindienst succeeds Sarah Brook, of Sandyston, the 2011 Queen of the Fair. Kleindienst plans to study elementary education with a minor in studio art. She hopes to become a teacher.

Kleindienst was asked about her feelings winning the Queen of the Fair title and she said, "I was very nervous and I wasn't sure of myself. I felt the same way at the Miss Stillwater competition too. I was like 'ooh I don't know if I can win it', and then they called me up for the finalist and I was shocked. When they called my name for the Queen of the Fair I wasn't sure if I was going to break down crying or jump for joy. It was very emotional."

Kleindienst may have had reservations about her chances of winning the Miss Stillwater Pageant and the Queen of the Fair event, but there was never any doubt in the minds of her parents James and Ellen Kleindienst, who encouraged her to enter the Miss Stillwater Pageant despite her not having any prior pageant experience. Her mother and father proudly posed for photographs with their daughter the newly crowned 2012 Queen of the Fair.

Miss Hamburg Marissa DeOliveira was first runner-up. Miss Newton Ashley Iliff was second runner-up and the people's choice winner.

The contest started at 7pm, and ran until 10pm. The events emcee was Tammie Horsfield, President of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce and a coordinator of entertainment for the fair. John Matthews, who will be a senior at  Kittatinny Regional High School in September, played keyboards and provided musical accompaniment.

The Queen of the Fair judges were: Grace Hanlon, director of the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism, Tom Tate, marketing and communications manager for Sussex Rural Electric Cooperative, and Sims Wyeth, a professional speaking coach.
