Several Arrests Top the West Orange Police Blotter News for August 12-16.

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Several arrests, burglaries and shoplifting top the West Orange Police Blotter news for Aug. 12-16.

Criminal Mischief; Police found a parking sign covered with the word "Czar" east of the intersection of Leonardo and Araneo Drives. A no parking sign was also covered by what appeared to be some sort of indelible marker.
Burglary/Theft: The JCC reported the theft of a member's mens slacks and $170 in currency from his wallet after his locker was vandalized. Six lockers have been broken into altogether but only one locker had missing contents. Possible surveillance footage may be available.
Burglary/Theft: A resident of Newark, Delaware reported the theft of five iPhone 5S's from his 2006 Mercedes, which had been parked overnight in a driveway on Valley Road. Police note the victim said the vehicle was locked but there were no signs of forced entry. The vehicles adjacent to the Mercedes were not burglarized. Police note that the victim appeard more interested in obtaining the police report than pursuing the investigation.
Burglary/Theft: The reporting person contacted police to report the theft of approximately 200 feet of copper piping from a residence on South Valley Road. The home is currently vacant and owned by the reporting person's employer. The reporting person further stated that he noticed the piping's disappearance in April and attempted to resolve the theft with Bank of America, and reported it on this date to police at the request of the homeowner/employer for insurance purposes.
Robbery: In the area of Cherry Street and Colgate Park, a victim was robbed at gunpoint and his iPhone4S and $66 in cash taken. The actors took off and police located the two suspects in front of Don's Wine and Liquor Store on Washington Street. The juvenile tripped and fell and police apprehended him. A third person, Shaquille Phelps, who apparently met the suspects after the robbery, was also arrested after running from police. The third suspect is also a juvenile. Property Damage: A vehicle was reported damaged by its owner in front of 261 Main Street. The windshield was shattered and there was a scratch on the hood, with police observing debris on the roof of the vehicle. Damage is estimated above $750.
Property Damage: The reporting person called police to say a utility pole transformer was on fire. Police arrived and told the person to move his vehicle. He called back later in the day to say he had parked his car back under the pole later in the day and there were burnt particles on the windshield.
Armed Robbery: The BP Gas Station at 83 Main St. was robbed. Read the article here.
Shoplifting: Lynn's Dress Shop at 444 Pleasant Valley Way reported the theft of six gowns and one dress valued at $3,000. A possible suspect, described as white, approximately 60 years old, 5'3 and heavy-set with salt-and-pepper hair, pushing a baby carriage with a child in it and carrying a bag, had tried on several inexpensive blouses in the rear of the store where the stolen goods were located.
Alleged Property Damage: Victim reported to police that her 2000 Ford Explorer's rear axle was loose from the frame after being towed to Select Towing. Victim stated this was 'new' damage, and said she was going to a certified mechanic to have it looked into.
