Seven Contenders for Open Millburn School Board Seat Scheduled to Meet on Monday with Township Education Body

MILLBURN, NJ - The Millburn Board of Education is scheduled to meet on Monday evening, March 11, with seven residents seeking to fill the school body vacancy created when Jean Pasternak resigned from the board on February 11.
Those seeking the position are: Lucinda Mercer, Jane Greenwald, John Westfall-Kwong, Jay Mattlin, Emily Jaffe, Milton Resnick and Kalani Thielen.
The person chosen the fill the vacancy will serve until Dec. 31, 2013. If they choose to fulfill the remainder of Pasternak’s term they will have to run in the Tuesday, Nov. 5, board of education election.
Board members will vote on their choice to fill the vacancy at the Sunday, March 24, school body meeting.
In addition to the single-year term remaining in Pasternak’s term, township voters also will elect three board members to full three-year terms. The terms of Michael Birnberg, Lise Chapman and Rona Wenik expire this year.
According to School Business Administrator Steven DiGeronimo, noone has filed a petition to run in the November election. The filing deadline for that election is June 4.
