OMAHA, Neb. – The Seton Hall men’s basketball team has been a different squad away from their home floor at the Prudential Center.

Facing No. 11 Creighton on the road for the first time, the Pirates gave the Blue Jays a late scare, before falling 72-71 on Sunday at CenturyLink Center.

Creighton’s nationally acclaimed forward Doug McDermott was too much to handle, scoring a game-high 29 points, en route to their 13th Big East victory of the season.

The Pirates trailed by as many as 10 points in the early stages of the second half before crawling all the way back to within one possession.

Seton Hall had multiple opportunities to tie or take the lead, however the Hall failed to tally a basket over the final 5:45 of regulation.

Despite the offensive struggle, the Pirates managed to stay in the game courtesy of strong defense and Creighton’s poor free throw shooting.

The Blue Jays, who are one of the best teams from the charity stripe, missed their last five from the line to open the door for Seton Hall.

McDermott and Ethan Wragge each missed a pair of free throws in the final minute with Creighton leading by one. However, a last second 3-pointer from Seton Hall’s Fuquan Edwin fell short.

Edwin led all Pirate scorers with 21 points, while Eugene Teague added 14 of his own.

The Pirates are back in action on Tuesday when they visit Chicago for a matchup with DePaul. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m.
