SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – History was made on Wednesday within the Seton Hall University’s Athletic Department. One week after the women’s golf team won their first conference title, the department’s fundraising entity, Pirate Blue, broke Seton Hall’s all-time donations record.

Pirate Blue’s third annual “Donation Match Day” yielded the most success in the history of the school, brining in $193,000 from nearly 450 alumni and friends.  The department reached the plateau due in part because of an anonymous friend of Seton Hall contributing $50,000 if Pirate Blue could pull in a donation from all 50 states.

It took nearly 24 hours to complete, but Associate Athletic Director of Development and External Affair Bryan Felt and his staff reached out to alumni around the country and the globe to increase last year’s total by almost 50 percent.

“The camaraderie of alumni and friends of the program elevated Donor Matching Day to a new level,” Seton Hall’s Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons said. “The generosity of our faithful supporters was overwhelming with a special thanks to RTB Media and the anonymous donor who infused excitement to the day with our 50 state challenge. The outpouring of support we received helps us fulfill our mission of providing the top resources to our student-athletes and enrich their experience at Seton Hall.”

All of the money collected goes right back into the athletic department. Within the last year, Lyons and his staff have cut ribbons on a new academic facility, training room and a brand-new fitness center for the entire Seton Hall community. The department is currently in the early stages of renovating the varsity locker rooms to give each program its own sport-specific space.

Donor Matching Day is annually held in conjunction with Seton Hall’s 30-for-30 basketball season ticket renewal incentive program that runs through April. All donors who contributed $30 or more on April 30 were entered into a raffle for a pair of 2014-15 men’s basketball season tickets. This year’s winning donor was Robert Hooper ‘94 of Long Valley, N.J.
