WEST ORANGE, NJ - As part of the ongoing Sesquicentennial Celebration this week in West Orange, on Monday, July 2 the Toby Katz center at Degnan Park was transformed into a pictorial history gallery. Photographs of West Orange, past and present, news clippings, and a slideshow were available for residents to enjoy. Joe Fagan, town historian, and his wife, Debbie, were on hand to chat with residents about West Orange history. As they posed for a photo, Joe said that it was Debbie's birthday and that they met 30 + years ago right here in Degnan Park.
Doug Alford, who has written several pieces for the West Orange Outlook on the history of West Orange, provided a slideshow with old and current photos of various locations around town. He also brought with him several of the West Orange postcards he has collected over the years. Roger Schneider of Schneider hardware was also present to share information about the archived photos and information.
Activities continue tomorrow, July 3, at noon, where the contents of a Time Capsule will be presented to the public on the steps of Town Hall. Tomorrow evening, a Throwback Softball Game with members of PAL and Mountaintop. Snacks, refreshments and surprises are in store!
