PATERSON, NJ – Police announced Wednesday that they believe the same man committed two rapes at a downtown Paterson commercial building during the past three weeks. Authorities also are looking into the possibility that he is responsible for a third sexual assault several blocks away during that same time period.

Using a knife, the suspect twice coerced young women into 129 Market Street, just down the block from City Hall, took them up to the sixth floor and sexually assaulted them, police said.

The first assault on an 18-year-old woman happened on Fri., Sept. 14 at 6 pm and the second on a 19-year-old victim happened at the same time on Mon., Oct. 1.

In a third incident, man matching a similar description sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman on McBride Avenue near the Great Falls at 1:10 am on Oct. 2.

Police described the suspect as a light skinned Hispanic male, tall, between the ages of 30 and 40 years old. “He approaches his victims with a very calm and sincere demeanor before he grabs them and puts a knife against them forcing them to go with him,’’ said a Paterson Police Department press release.

Authorities are asking that any person with any information on the crimes contact the Paterson Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-321-1120.
