Seniors Get A Big Bounce With Tennis
Wednesday, February 15, 2012 • 10:56am
For years New Providence has provided tennis lessons for kids as young as three through adults. Now seniors are getting in on the action with the new Seniors Tennis Program.
Resident and New Providence Tennis Association player Dick Walther has introduced a weekly tennis class for seniors of all levels. Seniors Tennis is modeled after a successful program he helped implement in two elementary schools in Summit. It is especially appropriate for those who have never played, or those who may have a little experience. Those who have played are also encouraged to further develop their skills and enjoy the fun of playing with other seniors. Players ages 55 and up are welcome.
Participants are learning the game and basic skills using light and easy-to-hit balls. Classes take place on Tuesdays at 11:15AM at the Municipal Center Gym, 360 Elkwood Avenue. No pre-registration is necessary, and there is no charge. Racquets and balls are provided.
Once the outdoor tennis season begins, the group will move to the newly renovated Municipal Tennis Courts.
Those interested are encouraged to stop by a session or call the Senior Citizens Center at 908-665-0046.
