LIVINGSTON, NJ – On the eve of Wednesday Aug. 6, the Northland Pool held a Senior Pool Party featuring the Rik Shaw Band for ages 55 and older. Liliana Branquinho, the Senior and Adult Enrichment and Special Events Supervisor, opened up the event by thanking all for attending.

“I am so happy that we have such beautiful weather, the last Senior Pool Party was indoors due to the weather,” said Branquinho. Lifeguards were on duty during the event and attendees were encouraged to go swimming or dip their toes in while they listened to the music.

The Rik Shaw Band performed many songs, beginning with “My Girl.” The band consists of drummer and vocals Susan Shaw and guitarist Rik Shaw. “The dance floor is open,” announced Susan Shaw, when a group of women requested some “Mo-town.”

During the party the Livingston High School Key Club had refreshments for the attendees such as coffee, bakery items and ice cream.  The volunteers went to tables asking the seniors if they would like any refreshments and made sure they were comfortable.  “I got involved through my friends and my sister. I am glad to be a part of a club that does activities like this,” said Brianna Morticen, a Key Club member and junior at Livingston High School.

Many people were sitting for the performance as well as dancing near the stage. Those who were sitting were chatting with friends and meeting new people. “We have lived in the town for 44 years, we come to the pool all the time. We try to make it to all of the events and we are thankful for the community and the volunteers, it shows the good in the community,” said Howard Pottruck, a Livingston Resident, who attended the pool party with his wife Dottie Pottruck and friends Betty and Charles Ruben.
