SUMMIT, NJ - Kyle Crotty had 18 points, including four three-pointers, and Wayne Wong added 13, as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team rode a second-quarter surge to ease past Oratory Prep 60-32 on Senior Night at the Summit High School Gym.

The first quarter was fast-paced and taught, with Summit ending the period up 16-10.  Crotty had the game's first five points, but Oratory hung tough, and looked ready to make a game of it.  The Hilltoppers had other ideas.

Shooting well and playing aggressive defense, Summit held the Rams to just five points over the next two quarters.  The game was essentially decided in the second frame, which Summit dominated, opening with a 10-0 run, outscoring Oratory 16-2 in the quarter, and taking a 32-12 halftime lead.

The third quarter was a carbon copy of the second.  Crotty opened the quarter with five straight points, and Oratory did not score a basket until four minute mark of the period, meaning they had scored two points in the 12 previous minutes of game time.  The Hilltoppers led 50-15 at the end of the third.

Liberal substitutions marked the fourth quarter, with Summit Head Coach Jim Davidson emptying his bench.  With the win, Summit improves to 15-1 on the season, and Davidson was pleased with several aspects of his team's performance.  "I thought we did a nice job with our pressure defense, and our team defense has really improved."  He added, "We shot the ball well tonight, and we played up on the three point line, as they have some players that can shoot the ball."

Prior to the game, the team honored the nine Seniors on the roster, each being introduced to the crowd along with their parents.  The Senior class' contribution, according to Davidson, has been a big part of the team's progression.  "It is a close-knot group, they pick each other up, and they set the tone for the rest of the team."

Earlier in the evening, the Summit High School JV nipped Oratory 48-46, and the Freshman team also defeated the Rams, winning 52-42.
