Scotch Plains PAL D-Team "Superbowl" Champs

SCOTCH PLAINS— At Tuesday's regular Council meeting a resolution honoring the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PAL (Police Athletic League) 5th grade football team for winning the New Jersey Suburban Youth Football Championship, was passed.
"I am calling for a resolution to offer whereas the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PAL D-Team members have competed and won the distinction of New Jersey Suburban Youth Football Champions," Mayor Nancy Malool read, "and whereas finishing the season with an 8-0 score, making this team the first D-team Superbowl champions in the history of the league."
Head coach Luke Fugett, also a Scotch Plains police seargent, got up to thank Mayor Malool and accept a certificate on behalf of the team.
"It's a big honor, and one day [these children] will understand how big of an honor it truly is," Coach Fugett added. "You don't do this on your own, though; we had a lot of support from the PAL."
The Mayor declared the past season to be “the greatest season in the history of Scotch Plains-Fanwood PAL football.”
