Scholarship Foundation Launches Dollars for Students House-to-House Canvass

Friday, March 28, 2014 • 11:00am

FANWOOD, NJ -- On Saturday March 29th and Sunday March 30th, the Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation will launch the second phase of its Dollars for Students campaign.  High school students who have applied to the Foundation for scholarship assistance will knock on doors in their neighborhoods to ask the community for its support in reaching the Foundation’s goal of raising $25,000 to fund scholarships to be given in 2014.   Students will also collect donations outside area businesses.

The Foundation has been distributing scholarship assistance to area youth for the past 48 years, awarding $2,507,042 in scholarship aid to 2,523 students.  Last year, with the community’s assistance, the Foundation was able to award scholarships totaling $137,650 to 89 students.   In 2014, 170 students have applied for scholarship assistance.  Due to the success of last year’s Dollars for Students campaign, the Foundation is able to increase the amount of scholarships offered this year to those students chosen by our broad-based screening committee.

“We hope our community will once again partner with the Foundation to financially assist our students, sending them off to college knowing that their community cares and stands with them,” said Mary Ball Cappio, President of the Foundation.

Contributions are fully tax-deductible and the funds raised will be used to aid high school and college students in achieving their higher education goals.  If a resident is not contacted in person or does not find an envelope left by a student, they may send their donation to the Scotch Plains Fanwood Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 123, Fanwood, NJ 07023.

In addition to its fundraising efforts, the Foundation administers scholarships sponsored by 24 local individuals and organizations, as well as administering the capital of 17 established scholarship funds.   For further information, visit www.spfscholarshipfoundation.org or contact spfscholarshipfoundation@gmail.com.
