The first annual Student Business Expo was hosted by the Business Club on December 4th at the Sussex County Community College (SCCC) in the Student Activities Galleria Building.

Designed to promote student-owned and/or operated businesses—this year's expo theme was “Tomorrow's Leaders Today.”

“This expo demonstrated how some of my students are really creative and playing with an idea to take their creativity commercial,” says Mary Ellen Donner, Assistant Professor of Business and Economics at SCCC. "Other students really just grabbed an opportunity for extra income when it showed up, while some of their businesses started as hobbies."

Students from across the campus, faculty from various departments and representatives from the College's business programs attended the expo, which highlighted the business ventures of about a half-a-dozen students.

The expo featured:

  • The business club and design squad's holiday material—ornaments (blue heart with a snowflake and sparkles), made by club members and sold for $3.00. Additionally, the business club was also selling package toppers (roses put together with ribbon and other holiday materials) for $1.00.;
  • Vintage Hip Décor & Gifts—a mother/daughter collaboration; specializing in refurbishing vintage furniture with specialty paint and creative technique;
  • Gabriella R. Kalipetis—photography/graphic designs; and
  • Vintage Apps—mobile Apps company—started as an inspiration from Spencer Costanzo from Princeton, NJ; President/CEO of Malibu Apps.

“Whether the student has a side business or a full-time business that they are looking to morph into a career, the Business Expo has given them the opportunity to promote their business via pamphlets, cards, samples and even presentations,” explained Brett Olsen and Lauren Wilson, co-presidents of the SCCC Business Club.
