SCCC Presents the Black Maria Film Festival

NEWTON, NJ—Both the Sussex County Community College’s (SCCC) Performing Art Center and the Student Center Theatre continue to bring cutting-edge, independent films to the region by hosting the Thomas Edison Black Maria Film Festival. The award winning festival will be held on Tuesday, February 5; 10:50 a.m.-12:05 p.m.at the Student Center Theatre; and Friday, February 8 at 8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Admission $8-$10. Free popcorn will be available.

Since 1981, the annual Black Maria Film and Video Festival, which takes its name from that of the world’s first motion picture studio built by Thomas Edison in 1893, has been an international juried competition and award tour. The festival has been fulfilling its mission to advocate, exhibit and reward cutting edge works from independent film and video makers. The festival is known for its national public exhibition program, which features a variety of bold contemporary works drawn from the annual collection of 50 or more award-winning films and videos.
