Saturday's Parade and Picnic Set to Celebrate Roseland Fire Department's 100th Anniversary

ROSELAND, NJ - The Roseland Volunteer Fire Department is all set to celebrate this Saturday with a parade and picnic to commemorate the department’s 100th Anniversary. At 1 p.m., a parade down Eagle Rock Avenue will kick off, followed by a picnic at the firehouse located at 300 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland. All events will be held rain or shine.
The Fire Department announced that George Batta will serve as the Grand Marshal of the parade. Batta is a former chief and, with 48 years of service, the longest-serving active member of the department. To commemorate this honor, Fire Chief Kent Yates, 2nd Lieutenant William Collins, who is also the 100th Anniversary Committee Chair and President Kevin Schaeffer presented Batta with a plaque.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m., from the corner of Prudential Drive and Eagle Rock Avenue and the route will proceed west for about one and a half miles down the avenue until it ends at Becker Farm Road.

The firehouse picnic will be a family party which is set to take place directly after the parade. Entertainment will be provided by a DJ and live bands and children’s activities will feature a petting zoo, inflatables, clowns, face painting, games and contests. The purchase of a commemorative mug will include free beer, birch beer and food catered by ShopRite.

The department, which began in 1913, has continued as an all volunteer organization standing by to serve residents and businesses throughout the borough. Parade Chairman William Collins commented, “We are looking forward to a wonderful Fire Department Centennial Celebration. Everyone’s participation and support is greatly appreciated.”
