Featuring Robert Funaro from the Sopranos and American Gangster!
A Sam Shepard play reading festival will kick-off starting October 11th, 2013 at 8:00 pm at Mondo in downtown summit. Sally Ponzio from Summit, NJ and past President at the Summit Playhouse will be Producing play readings, improv nights for adults, teens and children’s cabaret all at Mondo, 26 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ 07901 - 917-969-4534.
The Sam Shepard series will start with the play “Fool of Love.” A haunting look at the power of obsessive love.
Sam Shepard is an American playwright, actor, and television and film director. He is the author of several books of short stories, essays, and memoirs, and received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play Buried Child. Shepard was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of pilot Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff (1983). Shepard received the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater Award as a master American dramatist in 2009.
The play reading will star Robert Funaro who is best known for the role of Eugene Pontecorvo in the Emmy Award-winning television series The Sopranos. His most notable episode on The Sopranos, titled "Members Only," won an Emmy award. Robert also guest starred in Television series like Blue Bloods, Unforgettable and multiple episodes of Law and Order.
The cast also includes Summit resident and actor Arnold Buchiane, FJ Robertis who has also performed at the Summit Playhouse and area, and Leigh Anne West (www.LeighAnneWest.com) who has an extensive performances in film and theatre. Local actors will be considered for all play readings.
The Sam Shepard Play Reading Series will be directed by Frank Licato, Frank Licato (www.frankLicato.com) has been working for over 30 years as an actor, director, producer and teacher. He was nominated for an Obie award for his performance in “Deathwatch” by Jean Genet, which the New York Times called a ‘performance on another plane’. He acted at the American Repertory Theatre, the Delaware Theatre Company and the Boston Shakespeare Company. He has appeared on TV in Third Watch, Sidney Lumet’s 100 Centre Street with Alan Arkin and with Frank Sinatra in First Deadly Sin. As a director he won a Perry Award for his production of “Grapes of Wrath” at the Chatham Playhouse and his productions of “The Late Christopher Bean” and “The Best Man” received 13 Perry nominations. He received an Applause Award from the New Jersey Theatre Alliance and has worked extensively throughout the state.
