SAGE to Host Open House during National Adult Day Services Week
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 • 9:28am
In 1983, President Ronald Reagan set aside the third week of September for National Adult Day Services Week in order to raise awareness of adult day service programs across the country. This year, SAGE Eldercare will be celebrating the week with an open house at their Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center, New Jersey’s longest running adult day program since 1975. The open house will be held from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 18 at 290 Broad Street in Summit.
During the open house, an interactive program and entertainment will be presented which will celebrate the “Sensational Sixties.” In addition, the public will have the chance to tour the facility and learn more about Spend-A-Day, a place for older adults to spend their days interacting with others and enjoying special programs, art, music and exercise.
“At SAGE, our mission is to help adults remain living independently, and Spend-A-Day is a vital part of that,” said Deanna Butters, Director of Spend-A-Day. “Seniors enjoy coming here and spending their days with us, instead of sitting home alone. The programs we have here are tailored to their interests, so while one person may enjoy doing an art project, another may want to go take part in the book club. The programs help provide a stimulating, enjoyable experience for everyone.”
Spend-A-Day’s open house on September 18 is free and open to the public. To RSVP or for more information, call 908-598-5548 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
SAGE Eldercare is a unique community resource that offers a comprehensive array of programs and services for older adults and caregivers, promoting independence and quality of life. Founded in 1954, SAGE is one of the few non-profit eldercare agencies in the United States, and the oldest in New Jersey, that offers a broad and comprehensive array of services under one roof that assist elderly, often frail, adults to remain independent in their own homes.
Programs at SAGE Eldercare include: HomeCare; Meals On Wheels; Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center; GPS (Guidance, Planning and Support) Services; InfoCare free information and referral service; Fall Prevention Initiative; Home Repair Service; Grocery Shopping and Errand Service; Bill Paying Service; Holistic Living Services; Alzheimer’s and PREP caregiver support groups; Community Education; and Union County Medicare SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program). In addition, SAGE has operated a Furniture Restoration Workshop, run by volunteers who specialize in caning and rushing chairs and refinishing furniture, and a Resale Shop for more than 50 years. Both provide essential funding that supports the organization’s programs and services for older adults in the community.
