MADISON, NJ - On Saturday, July 12, the Rotary Club of Madison hosted a fundraising pig roast to raise needed funds for medical expenses for Madison resident Dave Cuozzo, a 25-year policeman with the Union Police Department.

Officer Cuozzo has been paralyzed from the neck down since December 2013 as a result of a rare viral infection. In addition to medical expenses, his home must be be made handicapped accessible.

By partnering with St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison, the event began to take shape. St. Vincent Pastor Rev. Msgr. George Hundt offered the use of the school auditorium and mobilized a group of parish volunteers to assist the Madison Rotarians in getting the job done. Rotary chairperson Missy Durham’s efforts began to attract various other groups to participate.  Rotarian Bob Rocco and his band “Jumping the Gun” provided the music. Members of the band Rosewood also performed.  The Garden Club of Madison provided floral centerpieces.  In addition, Rocco’s Tuscany Grill and the Urban Fire Restaurant provided additional side dishes.

Madison Rotary’s financial goal of $10,000 was surpassed by a great amount: The proceeds were $25,000. More than 300 friends and neighbors attended. A Rotary scholarship of $2,000 was presented to Danielle Cuozzo, a 2014 Madison High School graduate, who will be attending Seton Hall University in the fall. The Cuozzo children and their mother, Lisa,  were also in attendance.

The Rotary Club of Madison is extremely pleased with the results of the event and wishes to thank all who participated, donated, or attended.  Rotary’s motto is “service above self”… it was evident all around as neighbors were helping neighbors.
