Rotary Club of the Caldwells Speaker Promotes Free Lung Screenings Available at St. Barnabas

CALDWELL, NJ - On Tuesday, the Rotary Club of the Caldwells hosted guest speaker Bridget Saggese, BSN, R.N. from The Lung Cancer Institute located at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Saggese, who works as a Nurse Navigator at the institute, spoke about lung cancer and informed the Rotarians that the hospital offers a free High Risk Lung Cancer Screening.

The life-saving test only takes a few minutes and uses a low-dose spiral CT scan which has been shown to lower lung cancer deaths by 20 percent.

Eligibility
Individuals who are current or former smokers are eligible for this free test if they meet the following criteria:
  • Ages 55 to 74 with a history of 30 packs a year or more
     
  • Ages 50 and older with a history of 20 packs a year or more in their smoking history, and have one of the following:
     
    • Exposure to radon, asbestos, silica, diesel fumes, chromium and nickel
       
    • A personal history of prior lymphoma or smoking related malignancies such as head and neck cancer, bladder and esophageal cancer
       
    • A family history of Lung Cancer
       
    • A diagnosis of chronic obstructive disease (COPD) or pulmonary fibrosis
